Since this is the first post, I thought that I should begin by laying out the subject matter of this blog. It is photography. Photography is art. Photography is science. It opens our hearts and souls. It opens our minds and imaginations. It is positioned, in a very real sense, at the fulcrum between art and science. In the nineteenth century, up until the time of Goethe, the duality of the arts and sciences was embraced. Now they are the poles of opposite worlds. But photography, as much now as in the days of Louis Daguerre and Fox Talbot, remains much more than a Pencil of Nature. It remains truly magical. This blog is about the magic of photography – the magic at all levels.
